Why look at AGL Energy? The stock has been in the news of late but mostly for the wrong reasons.

Earlier in the year the company was drawn into a very public spat with the (then) Turnbull government about the future of the Liddell power station. Long story short, the government wanted AGL to either sell or keep operating the plant in order to prevent energy prices from rising and ensure energy security. AGL wanted to close the plant rather than spend copious amounts of money to bring it up to standard and extend the plant life, and were not willing to sell it to a competitor.

Ultimately AGL told the government to bugger off and stood firm on its plans to close the plant in 2022.
