Industry fund data sourced from SuperRatings SR Balanced (60-76) Index to 31 December 2025. Returns shown are 10-year p.a. net of investment fees and tax, for the Balanced investment option (60-76% growth assets). Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. Admin fee and insurance estimates are indicative only and vary by balance size, age and cover type - always check your fund's current PDS for exact figures. What does your superannuation calculator result actually mean?
Running the numbers is more useful than most people realise. Not because the projection is accurate – it isn’t, it can’t be – but because it replaces vague anxiety with specific clarity. Most people have a rough sense they should be doing more and an equally rough plan to sort it out later. A number on a screen makes it real.
The gap between where most Australians end up and where they need to be is significant. The median super balance at retirement is around $165,000 for women and $220,000 for men. To generate $100,000 a year in retirement using the 4% rule, you need $2.5 million. You do not need to be a mathematician to see the problem.
How to grow your super faster
Most Australians are in a default fund option and have never changed it. There are a handful of simple things you can do that make a significant difference over time. None of them require a financial adviser. Most take five minutes.
