On the Couch with Phil King CIO Regal Funds Management

This week we catch up with Phil King, the founder and CIO of Regal Funds Management.  Regal (RF1) has been a stunning performer over the years since Phil and his brother, Andrew, founded the business in 2004.  Regal is one of Australia's leading investment managers servicing a wide range of institutional investors, family offices and high net worth individuals.  The fund manager currently has over A$2.4bn funds under management as at 31 March, 2021. In this podcast Phil talks about his view on the current uranium boom together with the one stock that is his highest conviction pick. And one stock that he has shorted in the past.  Phil gives us an insight into the way Regal analyses stocks using their four-step approach. RF1 is the ASX listed LIC. We have recommended it in the past and is part of one of our popular Corona Baskets. The Fund's Investment Objective is to provide investors with exposure to a selection of alternative investment strategies managed by Regal, with the aim of producing attractive risk adjusted absolute returns over a period of more than five years with limited correlation to equity markets. Philip worked for De Putron Fund Management (DPFM) in London as a hedge fund manager specialising in relative value and special situations. Prior to joining DPFM in 2000, Philip was an equities analyst at Macquarie Bank for over five years. Philip also worked at KPMG from 1987 to 1994 as a chartered accountant. Philip holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of New South Wales and was inducted into the Funds Management Hall of Fame in 2019.
